‘Luxe Botanical’ styled shoot, shot at Highcliffe Castle

Late last year I had the idea I wanted to do a luxe, botanical styled shoot – seeing this becoming a sure fire trend for 2017’s wedding season.  What resulted was above my expectations.  We had the most wonderful team, who put up with a very cold room in early January whilst we were shooting!  When thinking about a location for the shoot, what sprang instantly to mind was Highcliffe Castle.  I felt that Highcliffe (in particular the adeptly named Winter Garden Room) was a perfect choice for the styled shoot theme.  The large, long glass panels remind me of Kew Gardens – which fits in with the botanical style nicely.

We had beautiful gowns and shoes brought to us by Hannah, of Hannah Elizabeth Bridal Boutique, and custom made accessories by White Designs Bespoke Bridal Adornments.  The very green floral arrangements were by cutie Sophie Anderson of Flowers, With Wild Abandon (who we sent out to ‘kindly ask’ a gentleman to not stand by the windows – it was very funny!)  The epic stationary was by Peony and Rose, my go-to lady for all my stationary needs now.  And the banquet table decorations were by Tammy of Fundoo Weddings.  The exquisite cakes were by Hayley of Sweetcheeks Bakehouse.  The two hair designs were by Michelle Crosser of Bridal Hair in Hampshire, and the model was good friend Sophie Waldron of Bridge Models.  All of this was beautifully captured by Sam of New Forest Studio – who is possibly one of my most favourite wedding photographers.

And makeup by me!

Hope you enjoy x

It’s all about the bride…my personal mantra

I recently did a bridal/boudoir styled shoot at wedding venue Penton Park, to celebrate the opening of their new preparation suite ‘The Blue Room’.  We had a fab team of suppliers on set including owner of Sass and Grace Bridal Boutique Sam, who pulled out her ultimate pin bag she uses in case any smart tucking is required.  And what a beautiful and symbolic pin bag it was!  It was an instant hit as we all throughly believe that a wedding should all be about the bride (and groom for that matter)  Quite often couples feel like their wedding day is about pleasing everyone else, about creating the most glorious party – which it is to a certain extent.  But it’s important to remember why your getting married, and how you want to feel on the day.  Pampered and cared for, or stressed and tired?

That is why as wedding suppliers we know that, for a few fleeting moments, we have to make you the centre of our worlds.  A wedding photographer has to capture those good feels throughout the day, a florist has to imagine your most perfect boutique and your makeup artist has to design you a look that reflects the real you with a little touch of the glam.

That’s why I’m adopting this mantra x

Bookings for 2017…

I am now constantly taking on bookings, and then subsequently deposits, for the 2017 wedding season.  I never thought almost four year ago that I would be in this enviable position of knowing exactly what I would be doing for the following year.  What exciting venues I would visit, what amazing photographers I would work with and of course, what brilliant brides I would have the joy of doing the makeup for!  If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to get in touch and reserve your wedding date soon – especially if it falls on a weekend, which are almost fully booked for next year.

Creating makeup you’ll love…

I kinda feel like the fairy godmother when it comes to bridal makeup.  I often get clients excitingly telling me their wedding plans, showing me their various mood boards, followed by their thoughts on what makeup design they want.  It’s then my job to take all of those suggestions and design something that is what the client wants, yet is suitable for their features.  Sometimes I am asked to replicate exactly a look from Pinterest, which is absolutely cool, but I always explain that the looks on sites like Instagram and Pinterest are quite often editorial or have been edited to look so.  I love the fact that I have the role of taking the bones of the design of the dress, the hair and even the flowers to create that final bridal makeup that all the guests will see and that will be documented in the wedding photographs.  It’s also so vitally important to me that the bride LOVES the makeup design, so I work tirelessly on editing and creating that perfect look even after the makeup trial.  I’m always thinking to myself how could that have been better?  I think it’s that need to find answers that drives me x
