Yesterday I had the privilege of doing the bridal makeup for Kate and matron of honour Emma at New Forest wedding venue The Master Builder’s at Buckler’s Hard. Kate wanted her wedding makeup to be soft, delicate with a touch of pink – whilst matron of honour Emma went for a natural finish with pinky lips.
As Kate is currently pregnant and had this amazing natural glow, I didn’t want to hide that with too much foundation so I kept everything base-wise very light. I did want to create depth with Kate’s eyes though so built up a pinky toned smokey eye using black & brown shadow to soften the look along the eye line x
Bridal makeup by its very nature is not like everyday makeup. This is because of two things; 1) it has to be photo-ready or photogenic 2) it has to last at least 16 hours in different temperatures and under varying pressures. Therefore, it will most certainly be more products than you’re used to applying on a daily basis. So something to consider when deciding on hiring a makeup artist for your wedding, is whether you like to wear makeup and how much do you like applied? Sounds like a pretty obvious question, but you’d be surprised how many of my clients are a little tentative with the amount of products needed to produce a relatively ‘natural’ makeup look!
This is most evident at the makeup trial when I create a bespoke bridal design for a client, and there initially reaction is shock – not because the makeup is awful or anything! It is entirely down to the fact that they are seeing the makeup out of context without having their hair styled or their wedding gown on to counter balance the look. And that is where the skill and experience of a makeup artist lies, in knowing where that line is without everything wedding related around them. It can feel like a lot of makeup when you’re in jeans and a T-shirt at your makeup trial – but believe me on the wedding day when you’re wearing the most stunning wedding gown, your is hair styled and with a stunning bouquet held at your waist it will not feel like you’ve overdone the foundation! x

Elsbeth’s wedding is one that will remain with me for a while, not least because she shares the same name as my daughter! From our first meeting Elsbeth has been completely open and friendly, wanting to share her excitement for her wedding at the beautiful Master Builder’s at Buckler’s Hard, New Forest. She was quite focused on what she wanted for her bridal makeup and asked me to develop something keeping her colour theme in mind. While she admitted that she knew very little about makeup I was impressed with Elsbeth’s commitment in getting her skin ready for her big day – eating well, drinking plenty of water and doing weekly exercise. And she surely is a poster-girl for her effects, as on the day she was fresh faced and already looked stunning.
I took Elsbeth’s colour theme of purple and worked to make this light smokey eye using different shades, which is important so you don’t end up with a ‘bruised’ effect! I then used light layers of foundation to give a flawless, dewy base and added the lightest touch of pink to the lips from Chanel No.54 Boy x

Today was simply amazing. I always enjoy myself at The Master Builder’s at Buckler’s Hard in the New Forest, and today was no exception! Busy as usual, as this place is one of the best wedding venues in the forest, so it’s always packed with excited couples looking around and getting their suppliers booked up. Today I took no less than 5 bookings for next year, with lots of brides having a little ‘makeup’ chat with me.
The wedding team at the hotel are simply the best (I think, the best in the county) and are always happy to help without being pushy. I keep saying to my husband if we ever get married again, it’s going to be at The Master Builder’s! x

It’s hard to believe that this beauty got married two months ago, on a very drizzly September morning in the New Forest. Hannah, ever the optimist, was not deterred by the weather and was determined to enjoy every minute of the wedding morning preparations.
I loved Hannah’s colour scheme for her late summer wedding – she had decided to go with a deep rich blue for her bridesmaids dresses, yet kept the flowers very pale blue with some gorgeous pastel shades all beautifully done by my favourite florist Jo Hicks Flowers. As Hannah’s wedding dress was to be very delicate, with lace and a fitted bodice we decided upon a classic bridal makeup look – keeping it simple with soft browns and a neatly lined eye, with just a good coat of mascara rather than false eyelashes. Hannah was then going to go onto Beaulieu Abbey Church, which is very significant to her as other family members have been married there in the past – making that romantic connection and tribute.
Hannah then went onto The Master Builder’s Hotel, where her elegant vintage theme was perfectly set out by the wedding team there. All of this was beautifully captured by Mia Photography
