Featured: Want That Wedding… bridal boudoir styled shoot

I am very excited to see our latest styled shoot featured on the very fabulous Want That Wedding wedding blog, launching today.  I had so much fun organising this one and pulling my dream team together again to create something feminine, sexy and powerful.  Something which I think we all need to celebrate and be reminded of now and again… we’re women and we have incredible strength.

“You know what’s really, powerfully sexy? A sense of humour. A taste for adventure. A healthy glow. Hips to grab on to. Openness. Confidence. Humility. Appetite. Intuition. … Smart-ass comebacks. Presence. A quick wit. Dirty jokes told by an innocent-looking lady. … A storyteller. A genius. A doctor. A new mother. A woman who realises how beautiful she is”. ~ Courtney E. Martin

Watch my blog closely in the next few weeks as I’ll be revealing how I created model Jess’s sensual makeup design.

Natalie & Steve’s New Forest Wedding at Rhinefield House

What a beautiful sunny winter’s day!  Just perfect for Natalie and Steve’s New Forest wedding today.  I arrived at Natalie’s parents house for a respectable 9am start to do the makeup for the bride and bridesmaid, with Anne Burge of Simply You Bridal Hair providing her expert hair skills.  Natalie wanted a classic brown smokey eye with loads of shimmer on the inner lid, with lashings of highlighter and a burgundy lip shade.  I loved designing this winter bridal look for Natalie x

Helena and her Winchester wedding at Norton Park

Today is bride Helena’s wedding!  Gone is the epic heat wave that was making us all feel like we were in an oven, and today brings a refreshing breeze that was greatly appreciated by Helena and her bridal party!!

I started my day for 9am at Norton Park, located near Winchester to begin the makeup for Helena’s bridesmaids and mother.  When 12pm rolled by it was finally time for the bride!  Helena wanted her bridal makeup to be subtle, yet pretty with lashings of mascara x

Anna and her Easter wedding – Spring is in the air

Had the enormous pleasure of doing this gorgeous, lovely gal’s wedding makeup yesterday at The Elvetham Hotel.  As it was Easter Sunday there was a certain under tone of Spring and warmth running through Anna’s wedding theme – which is also reflected in her bespoke makeup design.  Initially Anna wanted quite a dark, smokey eye design using very deep browns at her bridal makeup trial.  But when it actually came to the big day we decided it was best to go for a lighter, more soft look that would complement the day a little better.  Which is absolutely ok!  Makeup is just so versatile that you can change elements without any trouble and this is something that I always say to my brides… you’re not ‘stuck’ with anything and you can change your mind x

Nicola and her rainy, yet brilliant wedding at Balmer Lawn Hotel

It is Nicola’s wedding today at the Balmer Lawn Hotel in Brockenhurst.  A fab venue that I have the privilege of being the recommended wedding supplier for.  I arrived at 8:30am to torrential rain at the venue, and left at 12pm with bright, sunny skies!  After doing Nicola’s bridesmaids and mother of the bride makeup, I then moved onto Nicola’s wedding design.  Nicola wanted something to emphasise her gorgeous brown, green eyes – topped with a flawless base and a touch of pink through the lips.  I also introduced the subtlest of pink through the eye to connect Nicola to her bridesmaids, who were all wearing blush pink gowns x

Where to get ready on the morning of the wedding, hotel or at home?…

It’s often a question that pops up, especially if you are somewhat local to your wedding venue – where to get ready on the morning of the wedding?  At a hotel, or at home – perhaps even at a friends or parents house.  The most important thing to ask yourself is no matter where you choose to get ready, will you be on time for your ceremony – as this is crucial if you don’t want to tick off your vicar or registrar. Something else to think about is how much space will you need on the day – are you having a large bridal party with lots of bridesmaids and flower girls?  Are you having suppliers come in and drop off items for your day, such as flowers and decorations?  Will you have a hairstylist, makeup artist or photographer with you?

Then there’s also the question of wherever you’re getting ready, is it photogenic?  Often I have conducted makeup trials where either at the brides, or parents house there has been new wallpaper going up or paintwork – sometimes even new constructions to accommodate people!

Working from experience, I have noticed that the morning seems to work better when either a bridal suite has been booked with a ‘bedroom area’ and a ‘lounge area’ – where often the surroundings are kept to a high standard good enough for photographs.  Or, when a bride gets ready at home in a large living room space.   Space being key.

Wherever you’re get ready in the morning, make sure to have a fab time x

New date for diary – Sunday 13th November The Master Builder’s at Buckler’s Hard Wedding Showcase…

A couple of years ago I contacted a lady called Hannah Ferguson (wedding coordinator for The Master Builder’s) to see if she would be interested in a little alliance, as I had already provided makeup services to a couple of their bridal parties, and had fallen in love with this chic wedding venue.  Luckily she said yes, and so began my love affair with The Master Builder’s.  Since then I have exhibited at all of their wedding fayres (two a year) and been privy to many a wedding at this stunning place.  I always have an exciting feeling everytime I enter those wooden gates.

So I will be there again this November on Sunday 13th – doors open from 12pm and closing time is usually 5pm.  No fees are required (unlike some places!)  And there’s drinks and nibbles available upon arrival.

Laura and her New Forest wedding at Rhinefield House Hotel, Brockenhurst

Today I got the wonderful opportunity of doing the bridal makeup for Laura, at Rhinefield House Hotel in Brockenhurst.  And what a beautiful, warm sunny day for it – perfect for Laura’s outdoor wedding!

When I met Laura back in April she was a little nervous about having her makeup professionally applied, like many brides, as she doesn’t tend to wear a great deal of makeup day-to-day and didn’t want to real vulnerable and not like herself.  It’s a common feeling.  So we decided everything together – what shade of shadow to use, which mascara (Laura decided to use her own for a bit of comfort) and how much foundation and blusher to use.  Just these little things made a huge difference to how confident Laura felt in the end.

And that’s what I like to see.  A happy client x
