Just been looking back through our lingerie shoot images and came across this gorgeous one of Victoria Fergusson Accessories exquisite earrings in ‘India’

Description from Victoria’s website… ‘A lustrous pear pearl drop adorned with a beautiful rose or yellow gold pointy petal bead cap and tiny seed pearl. These earrings would make the perfect gift for your bridesmaids. Drop measures 17mm.’

Jo Hicks Flowers…a wedding florist like no other

I have known Jo for about three years now and I am always surprised at what beautiful creations she has made.  Inspiring me all the time to want to grow this rose, or that peony in my garden just so I can piece together that bit of perfection for myself.  She’s so talented and boy does she know her stuff!  Not just what is trending right now on the wedding flower circuit, but also what’s install for the following year – always keeping her finger on the pulse…which believe me, is a real talent.

Jo is also incredibly nice and you always just want to talk to her forever.  She works hard to understand exactly what you want from your wedding flowers, and puts into words what you can’t express or what you don’t know.  She is also amazing at making suggestions you might not have thought of like beautiful candles, or tiny flower jars attached to chairs down the aisle (my personal favourite)

Jo is just an immensely talented lady, and what’s more she is a champion of local wedding suppliers – the best of all of us x

How I created ‘that’ front cover makeup for Wedding Ideas Magazine Issue 163 (August)

When Tasha of Ikonworks asked me to come up with a bridal design for the front cover of Wedding Ideas Magazine, she told me it all had to be about the eyes.  Powerful, yet delicate with a certain impact you only get if someone is staring directly at you.  Simple, right?  Well actually, yes.  Tasha has a way of making you completely believe in her and the project.  And instills a trust in you to do, well, just what you excel at.  She understands that for her to do her job well, she needs to allow others to do theirs which is an absolute breath of fresh air!

So for the design!  After running a few sketches and doing some online research I had come up with a simple eye design, using soft browns from MAC and lining the eyes with brown and black to give it just another soft edge.  I then just added some false eyelashes for the camera to pick up on, filled in the brows lightly using the same browns through the eye.  I then added several base layers consisting of primers, pore primers, highlighters and strobe cream – finishing with a couple more layers of foundation.

I wanted the blush from the cheeks to almost sweep into the mouth, and form this one continuous look of inviting warmth.   So I used Rosie Huntington-Whitely’s new blusher which goes from a cream to a powder on contact (currently my favourite item in the kit)  Now the lips!  Everyone has been asking me about those lips and what I used…well it was a little of a beposke colour.  Combining MAC’s lipstick in Rebel and with MAC’s Dazzleglass in Funtabulous x

Expect excellence from your wedding suppliers…

Something which I am really proud about is that I have never been late for any appointment with my clients.  Be it for a bridal makeup trial or the actual wedding, I personally feel that if I am late or haven’t planned my journey well, or can’t even find the house for the trial then what faith does that in-still into the bride for the day of the wedding.  There are just certain things that you expect from your suppliers – after all that is what your paying a premium for isn’t it?  And every bride should expect the highest excellence from their wedding suppliers – from the venue to the florist.  And if you don’t, ask yourself ‘what do I need to do to get that from them’.

I often think that couples are too afraid to ask/demand exactly what they want from their suppliers, thinking that they are limited on who they can get in the local area.  Remember that you are the customer and any supplier worth their weight will do everything they can to make sure your day is unique in all the best ways!  It could be just a quick text, chat or email but whatever you want to say and ask for do it now before it all kicks off.

Sometimes it’s ok to have a little bridezilla moment!! x

That wedding makeup video and more…

Last year I decided to embark on making a promotional wedding makeup video, to showcase what I do basically. I wanted the video to have an air of wedding morning excitement, whilst showing potential clients what is actually involved ‘behind the scenes’ and how much of my skill I put into every single bridal makeup design.  I also wanted to get a couple of local businesses to provide flowers and a very bridal’y’ background in the form of Bleu Bridal Gowns boutique in Southampton.  The striking red roses were from Jo Hicks Flowers in Hythe.

I still get chills every time I watch the video as it is a statement to the support I feel I have from other wedding suppliers, and how far I have built my business.  So what’s next?  Well I’m thinking of doing a set of tutorial videos showing the very basics of looking after your makeup & brushes, and how I create some of my designs.

But we’ll see!…x

Frances Moore MUA – promotional video, with Bleu Bridal Gowns and Jo Hicks Flowers

Around the beginning of August I decided that I needed a promotional video to showcase not only my business, but also some truly fantastic local wedding suppliers – friends I have met along my journey.

I knew exactly where I wanted the filming to take place.  It had to be at Bleu Bridal Gowns boutique, in Shedfield Southampton.  I met Sue, the owner, at a local wedding fayre and after chatting most of the day she told me about her beautiful barn conversion that was her boutique, with hanging wooden beams and racks of stunning wedding dresses.  I immediately contacted Sue with my idea of filming this mash up of a wedding/makeup video, and luckily she saw the same vision and was delighted to allow us to film at her shop.  We just needed a model to complete our crew!

Sue had worked with a local model called Chloe Lancaster, having Chloe wear some of her gorgeous wedding dresses (see Bleu Bridal Gowns for more pics)  I knew Chloe would fit into the team nicely, and it helped that she was utterly stunning!  So we fixed a date and began filming in early September, on perhaps the hottest day of the year!  Great for lighting, not so much for poor Chloe who had to wear a wedding dress!  But she was such a professional and never complained even when we stood her near the door!!

I always knew that if I did a video of any kind, then I needed Jo Hicks to do the flowers.  This woman is simply amazing.  She believed in me right from the start, so encouraging and always helpful in promoting my business.  Her floral creations are so thoughtful, and I don’t recommend anyone else for flowers as Jo is just the best – and why have anything less on your wedding day?

I am so so happy with the video, Matthew Craig did a fantastic job filming and editing it.  And I think the music just sets off everything beautifully.  I get a little teary every time I watch it, as I feel this video is an accumulation of two years hard work to get here – through wedding fayres, being featured in wedding blogs and magazines…and of course working with some wonderful brides, who without them I wouldn’t be doing stuff like this xxx

The New Forest Wedding Group, wedding showcase – 22nd March 2015

A couple of weeks ago I was kindly invited by The New Forest Wedding Group to attend their latest wedding showcase at Dibden Golf Centre.  They are such a lovely bunch of people and really fantastic wedding suppliers, so it was a real joy to join this exclusive group.  It was a gorgeous sunny day, which helped to bring out lots of couples to the showcase – it was a very productive day for myself and the other suppliers, and I even got to make a few bookings – with one bride putting down a deposit straight away!

I truly can’t wait until the next showcase! x
